WHAT IS AGILITY?

Dog agility is an exciting sport that balances speed and accuracy in each race. The handler does their best to direct their dog around a numbered course using physical and verbal cues. The fastest dog with the best score wins the class. Classes are divided in levels starting with Novice going all the way to Masters . Classes are further divided into height classes so that dogs of the same height are competing against each other for placements. Courses typically have between 14-20 obstacles depending on the level. Jumping classes include Jumps, tunnels and weave poles while Standard classes include all agility obstacles: jumps, tunnels, weave poles, see saw, dog walk, A frame, tire and table. Other classes such as Time to Beat, FAST and Premier are all designed to test different aspects of each teams skill set. At each trial a judge is present to oversee that each course is built to their specifications. The judge is in the ring for each race watching closely for any faults of performance which results in points deducted from the overall score.

All breeds, including mixed breeds, can participate in Agility – from the smallest to the largest of dogs.
